The governing body is also collaborating with Volleyball World to ensure that the competition conditions for men’s and women’s tournaments are exactly the same. The International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) recently made the announcement that the number of teams competing in the Volleyball World Championships will be increased to 32 for both the men’s and women’s competitions.

The expansion plan was presented to and accepted by the board of directors of the FIVB. As a result, the next iterations of both competitions will begin with a more extensive round robin stage, which will include eight groups of four teams each.

In the past, the pool stage of the men’s tournament consisted of six groups of four teams each, and then the competition moved on to the knockout stage. There were 24 teams total in the men’s tournament.

In the most recent edition of the women’s volleyball World Championships, which took place in the Netherlands and Poland in 2022, there were 24 teams competing, but the format featured two group stages followed by a shorter knockout round. This was the first time since 2006 that the women’s tournament was held concurrently with the men’s tournament. One hundred matches were played in the women’s tournament, which is almost twice as many as were played in the men’s competition.
