It’s EuroBasket season! The United States is not participating in this competition (obviously), but there is still plenty of talent on display as EuroBasket showcases European Basketball’s top talent.
What exactly is EuroBasket?
It is a quadrennial basketball competition between FIBA Europe men’s national teams. It first took place in 1935, and despite some changes, it remains a premier European basketball showcase.
What Is the Structure?
A round-robin tournament is played between 24 teams divided into four groups. The top four teams in each group advance, but only 16 teams advance to the knockout stage.
The 16 teams then compete in a single-elimination tournament to determine a champion. (For more information, visit the FIBA website.)
When and where can I see it?
The tournament runs from September 1 to September 18; game times vary throughout the day, but generally begin at 7:20 a.m. ET. As the playoffs progress, the final game usually begins at 4:35 p.m. ET. Every game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
What Are the Main Distinctions Between EuroBasket and NBA Rules?
Some countries are thrilled simply to be in the Group Stage, while others are perennial contenders thanks to the combination of NBA stars and home-grown talent.
At the time of writing, not every team’s roster had been finalized, but I’ve taken the time to highlight some of the notable/familiar names.
